Danielle & George's Rain-or-Shine Wedding at Shottle Hall
Danielle and George's wedding at Shottle Hall in Derbyshire was a fantastic day for all - me included!
The morning was beautifully relaxed, which always makes for a smooth start to the day (for both the couple and the photographer!). Of course, there was the minor logistical challenge of Danielle and George getting ready in opposite rooms which meant I had to be a bit of a wedding-day ninja—sneaking back and forth to capture both the bridal and groom prep without either party accidentally bumping into each other. Particularly with Danielle’s prep, I had to make sure my timing was on point; no bride wants to be caught mid-makeup or half-dressed by her groom!
Ah, the great British weather. Danielle and George were dreaming of an outdoor ceremony, and with Derbyshire’s skies looking a bit ominous all week, the prospect was anything but guaranteed. However, wedding magic (and maybe a little bit of luck) was on their side! The clouds held off just long enough, we even got the sun peaking out, and they had their perfect ceremony outside with the stunning Shottle Hall as the backdrop.
Not only did the weather stay fine for the ceremony, we even managed to power through the family formals before anyone was rained on. This is no small feat in Derbyshire, especially considering the ominous clouds that were looming.
Now, if you’ve ever been to Shottle Hall, you’ll know it has endless beautiful spots for photographs and when the heavens inevitably opened there were plenty of trees and sheltered spots - we managed to keep everyone dry and still get some amazing couple photos! Danielle and George didn’t mind a little drizzle and had great fun posing for their photos!
When the rain finally took a break, George’s beloved car made its appearance. We even got a few shots with the roof down—because who says you can’t enjoy a convertible, even on a rainy day in Derbyshire? This was definitely one of those moments where you’re silently thanking the weather gods for giving you just enough of a break!
Once the formalities were done, it was time for the party—and what a party it was! If there’s one thing I love as a Derbyshire wedding photographer, it’s a lively dance floor, and Danielle and George’s guests did not disappoint. From George and Danielle showing off their best moves to the bridesmaids getting in on the action, it was one of the most fun dance floors I’ve seen all year. My camera barely had time to rest as I dodged arms, legs, and twirling dresses to capture every wild move and laugh-out-loud moment.
Honestly, if I could bottle up that energy, I would. There’s something about a wedding party letting loose that just makes for the best photos—there’s no posing, no rehearsed smiles, just pure joy.
Danielle and George’s wedding day was a fantastic celebration of love, laughter, and a little bit of Derbyshire rain. But as any good Derbyshire wedding photographer will tell you, rain just adds a little extra magic to the day (or at least gives you some good stories for later!).
Whether it’s capturing those precious candid moments, navigating the weather, or joining in on the dance floor fun (with my camera, of course), I love being a part of weddings like this. So, if you’re planning a Derbyshire wedding and want someone who’s ready for anything the weather throws at us, feel free to get in touch. Rain or shine, we’ll make your day unforgettable—and I’ll be there, camera in hand, raincoat at the ready!
