Frequently Asked Questions

  • It’s almost impossible to say, I won’t hold back and you’ll get as many photos as I edit, and I’ll edit as many photos as I think are good! This will also depend on how long you want me for and whether you opt for a second photographer. For a full day I don’t think I’ve ever delivered less than 500 so let’s use that as the benchmark!

  • Absolutely! Before booking we’ll have a chat via Zoom/Teams/Skype/Your video calling platform of choice. I think it’s really important to feel comfortable with the photographer you choose and even if you decide not to book with me I really encourage you to make sure you ‘gel’ with your photographer.

  • Unless you are vampires who won’t show up in the photos - yes!

None of my couples have been professional models and 99% had the same worries about not liking their photo being taken. Don’t worry about it!

I like to think I’m pretty good at getting people to relax and enjoy the process, though if I’m completely honest this is probably because you’re so wrapped up in your awesome wedding day that all the worries melt away.

If you’re feeling especially nervous about this, let’s chat through doing a engagement shoot - if you’ve booked me for your wedding then I’ll even offer a discount.

  • Up to 12,450.5 miles. (That’s half way around the earth apparently!).

Basically I’ll go anywhere. For destination weddings get in touch - for anything in the UK more than 50 miles from Derby there will be a small additional charge to cover travel costs depending on location.

Primarily I like to think of myself as a Midlands wedding photographer, and if I were to narrow it down even more then I would say a Derbyshire wedding photographer.

However I have been known to bounce around the UK and love the opportunity to explore venues further afield. For example, I’ve shot weddings in Worcestershire, Wales, Stafford, Sheffield and even Cyprus!

  • Just fill in one of the contact forms dotted around various pages on this site and I’ll be in touch ASAP.

(There’s one at the bottom of this very page!).

  • I could literally talk for hours about cameras so I am showcasing immense restraint to just say that I currently shoot with Canon cameras (though have previously shot with both Nikon and Fujifilm!) I I am in love with my gear and feel it elevates my work! I will always bring back-ups in case one camera stops working - There are no re-do’s on a wedding day!

  • My goal is to tell the story of the day so expect the candid shots of you and your guests throughout the day and night, photos of the details, formal family photos, as well as couples portraits that you’ll love to show off!

Something we’ll discuss before the big day is what YOUR priority is for your photos. Personally I love the couples portraits but it may be that the most important thing for you are the family formals. We can discuss this beforehand and I’ll adapt my approach to meet your needs (it’s your day after all!).

  • It hasn’t happened yet (touch wood!) but in the unlikely eventuality that I am too ill to work, I am part of many networks of wedding photographers and ‘second shooters’ that provide cover if such a thing comes to pass.

However rest assured that I will do everything in my power to be there on the day, I don’t take this lightly!

  • Absolutely. (Even if you don’t book with me, please make sure the photographer you do go with is insured!).

I am covered with both Professional Indemnity Insurance and Public Liability Insurance.

As mentioned above, I also bring back-ups of my gear and both of my cameras have two SD card slots, which I have set up to make copies of every single photo I take in the unlikely event that one SD card encounters a fault.

 Infrequently Asked Questions

  • I’m there to blend into the background but also need to be comfortable over a very long day. I’ve also been known to have to chuck myself into various positions all in the name of getting ‘The Shot’, so I’ll strike the balance with smart-casual. This is usually chinos, shirt and smart shoes/boots.

No polo shirts with my logo emblazoned across my back and chest like a D-list Marvel superhero on their day off.

  • This shouldn’t even be a question in this day and age, but unfortunately I have been asked this on more than one occasion, which makes me uncharacteristically sad.

I will shoot any wedding between two consenting and loving adults - love is love! I fully support the LGBTQIA+ community so please get in touch if you’re having a LGBTQIA+ wedding and think you’d like me as a photographer.

  • No, but watch this space…

  • I’m just a normal guy who struggles to write about himself! I live on the border of Staffordshire and Derbyshire with my fiance, two and three quarter rescue cats (one missing leg!) and an angry tortoise who would headbutt anyone to Timbuktu given half a chance.

When I’m not shooting weddings, I’m glued to the Formula 1 (Mclaren fan…), dragging myself up mountains (although my fiance argues they are merely hills) or re-rewatching Friends…again.

  • I’ve given this a lot of thought and I’ve finally landed on 100 duck-sized horses.

Ultimately the main risk with a normal sized horse is getting trampled, right? Being shrunk down to the size of a duck diminishes much of that risk as well as slowing them down a bit due to leg-span. Plus I feel like 100 of them coming at you - they’re bound to get in each others’ way.

On the other hand I once tried to walk around a lake but was blocked by a very angry, regular-sized duck and had to turn around and walk all the way back around. Imagine that being blown up to horse size!

I don’t need that kind of grief.
